Spin-Phonon Coupling in High-Tc Copper Oxides
Band calculations on HgBa2CuO4 and La(2−x)SrxCuO4 with phonon and spin-waves within the CuO planes show that partial gaps are created at various energies depending on wavelengths. Spin and phonon gaps appear at different energies when the modulations are along [1,1,0], while they are at the same energy for modulations along [1,0,0]. It is shown that the ability to form gaps and antiferromagneti...
متن کاملSpin structures of tetragonal lamellar copper oxides.
The spin Hamiltonian of tetragonal lamellar antiferromagnets is shown to contain several novel anisotropies. Symmetry allows bond-dependent anisotropic exchange interactions, which lead to (a) interplane mean-field coupling and (b) an in-plane anisotropy which vanishes classically but arises from quantum zero point energy (QZPE). A similar QZPE involving the interplane isotropic interaction pre...
متن کامل0 A critical examination of the spin dynamics in high - T C cuprates
abstract A critical examination of the spin dynamics in high-T C cuprates is made on the light of recent inelastic neutron scattering results obtained by different groups. The neutron data show that incommensurate magnetic peaks in YBCO belong to the same excitation as the resonance peak observed at (π/a, π/a). Being only observed in the superconducting state, the incommensurability is then rat...
متن کاملSpin dynamics of the electron-doped high-T(c) superconducting cuprates.
We show that a basic difference between the electron- and hole-doped cuprates is their proximity to two different quantum critical points in a 2D free fermion system on a square lattice and that the spin dynamics observed recently for the first time in the electron-doped Nd2-xCexCuO4, very different from that in the hole-doped cuprates, can be understood as a consequence of this effect.
متن کاملQ-dependence of spin excitations in high-T(C) cuprates from spin-phonon coupling.
An understanding of spin excitations in cuprates is essential since the mechanism of high-T(C) superconductivity might be linked to spin fluctuations. Band calculations for 'one-dimensional' unit cells of La(2)CuO(4) show larger coupling (spin-phonon coupling, SPC) between anti-ferromagnetic spin waves and O-phonons than for Cu- or La-phonons. When this result is applied to a two-dimensional, f...
